Artist in residence at the Wall Gallery: Gregor Wiest

Attention!
Don’t let Disney and Amazon steal from you the real magic that will flow from the art that you buy from Gregor Wiest! Hyperbole is a familiar and favorite means of communication for me.
I find its (un)critical structure essential to discovery of the overlooked aspects of our visual sense,
that acutely which is lustful and primarily unfulfilled.
Gregor Wiest’s works will change our perception of these too evident values.
His strategy is nuclear, essential, uncompromised.
The results are volcanic remains of the last and most recent attempt to make sense in a senseless world.
Starting April 2, 2023 and counting through June.
The closing reception will be held on July 4, 2023 where Gregor will receive his green card and a
six pack.

New Work 2023
We are pleased to announce the opening reception for the exhibition of works by Gregor Wiest made during his recent residency at The Wall Gallery in Brooklyn on Thursday, April 27. 2023. from 6pm to midnite. Wiest works from the vantage of a person with a profound understanding of human emotional intelligence. Ghostly empaths find their way to Gregor’s studio in the countryside outside Berlin. They visit him in dreams and nightmares and inform his vision in ways that mere observation cannot. Under the spell of these works the viewer’s eyes become the augers which model image worlds, where content is not content to be a sidecar to the acts of drawing and sculpting. Every mark is as if incised, every decision deeply engraved onto an aesthetic skin and embed themselves in the lives that these objects stubbornly hold. Singular, instinctive, emblematic, spectral, allegiant, individual and universal. Gregor Wiest’s works will remain on view until June 15th. Call 718 7818263 for an appointment if you have the temerity to miss the opening.

Gregor Wiest
Attention: I hereby issue an urgent call for viewers, reviewers, revolutionaries and other human beings:
Several nights ago at the Wall Gallery in Red Hook, Brooklyn our doors opened to an incredible world created over the last month by a singular artistic talent. Gregor Wiest comes from Berlin as the guest of gallery director Franz Landspersky who has known Gregor’s work for 30 years. He arrived in late March and began work as the first artist in residence at our Seabring Street space. This work is less than 30 days old. And it seems eternal, organic and essential. It is (very) seldom to witness a line, or more accurately the quality of a line, is so focused, so individual and original; A few sources are suggested ( Klee, Dix, along with classical drawing) but Wiest has succeeded in conjuring, through some apparent overwhelming desire, lines which chart new courses and invent new meanings. Like many new discoveries these marks fill gaps in our history and in our consciousness. I believe this effect is unique to great art and Wiest has forged 16 wonder filled pieces which constitute a new declaration of independent vision, of which humanity is the chief subject. But the true content is expressed in the articulation of the lines across these fragile surfaces and in the concrete volcanism displayed in the molten multicolored plastic dipped sculpted portrait busts, playing off each other in a super charged network of dependency and cross purpose, The sculptures own literal space just as the drawings own pictorial space. And all one needs to do is to look around. Your world will be changed..
